Hoping to ensure their survival, better meet students' needs and enhance ties with the business community, universities are increasingly opening offices and satellite campuses around Tokyo Station.
Kyoto's Ritsumeikan University opened an office in 1999 in front of the station's Yaesu entrance. Students can pick up the same grade certificates, ticket discounts and other documents that are available at the main Kyoto campus.
Students who have traveled to Tokyo by bullet train or night bus from Kyoto can often be seen at the office preparing to visit companies they are interested in working for after graduation and exchanging information with other students.
