The benchmark Nikkei index ended Monday trading at another 20-year low as investors dumped technology shares amid earnings concerns triggered by Sony Corp.'s dismal estimate last week and falls in bank shares.
The 225-issue Nikkei average slid 91.62 points, or 1.19 percent, to close at 7,607.88 -- its lowest close since Nov. 9, 1982, when it finished at 7,576.40. The previous 20-year closing low was set Friday, when the average ended at 7,699.50, the lowest since its Nov. 16, 1982, finish of 7,698.30.
The broader Topix index of all first section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange fell 8.93 points, or 1.14 percent, to 773.10.
