Japan is to look for ways to efficiently diagnose and treat SARS, with several research projects scheduled to begin by the end of May, a science ministry official said Saturday.
The introduction of the emergency research comes amid global concerns over the spread and magnitude of severe acute respiratory syndrome.
The research is also a crisis management measure designed to deal with a worst-case scenario of SARS patients in Japan, given that neighboring China has been hardest hit.
