Government officials were divided Friday over how to deal with Pyongyang's reported admission that it possesses nuclear weapons, with some calling for the imposition of economic sanctions.
A senior Foreign Ministry official said economic sanctions would be effective if China, North Korea's major trading partner, agrees to follow suit.
He also said Japan should take a tougher stance on the regime.
