The Tokyo High Court on Wednesday upheld the death sentence for a man convicted of murdering six female employees during a jewelry store raid in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, in June 2000.
Having stolen jewels valued at 140 million yen, Kazuo Shinozawa, 52, proceeded to set the store ablaze, killing the women in the process.
Presiding Judge Shogo Takahashi said Shinozawa deserves to die because he "committed such a heinous crime to steal for selfish reasons and burned as many as six women to death to silence them."
