The Diet on Friday launched full deliberations on a package of bills dealing with responses to foreign military attacks.
The debate was kicked off by the government's explanation of its outline for a separate, forthcoming bill aimed at protecting residents of Japan in these situations.
The outline was submitted by Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda during a session of the House of Representatives Special Committee on Responses to Armed Attacks.
