Japan is considering providing reconstruction funds for Iraq through the U.N. Development Program, sources close to the matter said Thursday.
The UNDP route is attractive because it is difficult for Japan to provide direct official development assistance to Iraq, the sources said.
Providing ODA requires the exchange of official notes with the government of the partner country, the sources said. An interim Iraqi authority has yet to be formed.
