The Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States and subsequent war in Afghanistan are included in most high school textbooks that survived the latest round of screening by the education ministry.
Wrapping up the annual process this week, the ministry for the first time allowed textbook content to stray from its guidelines, but it tightened its screening on certain topics.
For instance, it strongly urged that content on the role of the Self-Defense Forces be in line with the official government view.
