DaimlerChrysler Japan Co. said Tuesday it is recalling 3,268 units of the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Cherokee for free replacement of defective parts.
In a report filed with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the company said the parking brakes of 2,110 Jeep Wranglers, imported between September 1989 and January 1996, could suddenly be released due to a defect in the brake pedals.
DaimlerChrysler Japan said 1,158 units of the right-hand drive Jeep Cherokee, imported between July 2001 and June 2002, could develop two problems, saying the brake system could malfunction due to a poor vacuum hose fitting while the racket holding the license plate could also fall off because it does not fit.
