Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. said Friday it has received a bulk order for gas turbines and other equipment for China's first large-scale power plants fired by natural gas.
MHI received the order in cooperation with Mitsubishi Corp., Mitsubishi Electric Corp. and China's Dongfang Electric Corp. for installing gas turbines, steam turbines and generators at four locations in Beijing, Huizhou and Shenzhen.
Dongfang Electric is one of China's three major power generation equipment manufacturers.
The four power plants are expected to begin operating between 2005 and 2007, as China, where coal-fired thermal plants are currently the main form of power generation, proceeds with a project to promote the use of clean and high-efficiency gas turbines, MHI said.
