The Japan Business Federation (Nippon Keidanren) plans to appoint Yoichi Morishita, currently a vice chairman of the business body, as head of its board of councilors, or the "watchdog" of its overall activities, business sources said Thursday.
Nippon Keidanren's chairman and vice chairmen are expected to agree at a March 10 meeting on the appointment of Morishita, who is also chairman of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., after he steps down as vice chairman of the business body in May, they said.
Morishita will be taking over the post vacated in September by Sho Nasu, then an adviser at Tokyo Electric Power Co. Nasu stepped down from the Nippon Keidanren post as well as the adviser post at Tepco to take responsibility for a scandal involving coverups of damage inspection reports at its nuclear reactors.
