Hitachi Ltd. and U.S. software company Oracle Corp. said Thursday they will reinforce their cooperation in the field of storage solutions.
The agreement, which also involves subsidiaries Hitachi Data Systems Corp. and Oracle Corp. Japan, is aimed at meeting growing global demand for databases by combining Hitachi's large-capacity data storage system with Oracle database software such as Oracle9i.
The agreement calls for the four companies to strengthen cooperation in the fields of technology, customer support and sales and marketing.
For example, the partners will begin global sales later this month of newly developed software that enables users to readily confirm that an Oracle data file is in a Hitachi storage system. When a customer's system develops any trouble, the four companies will jointly deal with it.
The agreement also calls for the partners to jointly market Hitachi-Oracle systems in China and elsewhere.
