MEXICO CITY -- Authorities on Friday captured a man who they believe shot and killed a Japanese national after the two were involved in a car crash last weekend, Mexico City's attorney general said.
Bernardo Batiz said Engelbert Granados gunned down Eisuke Nizukoshi after a heated argument over who was to blame for the accident, which occurred Sunday in Mexico's capital.
Batiz said Granados was a former Mexican soldier. At the time of his arrest he was carrying a card identifying him as a former member of the security team assigned to protect the president, Batiz said.
Mizukoshi was from Takasago, Hyogo Prefecture. He had been living in Mexico for about 10 years, selling fish to local Japanese restaurants.
