Friedrich Greil, a former longtime German-language announcer for NHK, died of old age at a hospital in Chiba Prefecture on Friday, according to his family. He was 100.
A native of Germany, Greil came to Japan before World War II and reported events in Japan for German-language listeners before and after the war.
He taught German language and culture at Hitotsubashi University and many other universities and colleges.
