Marubeni Corp. and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. have jointly won a 6 billion yen contract to build a power generator for major Brazilian ironworks Companhia Siderurgica de Tubarao, the trading house said Thursday.
Marubeni and Mitsubishi Heavy have already supplied the steel plant with an electricity generator, but CST decided to order a new 75-megawatt boiler turbine generator to accommodate the launch of new production equipment, Marubeni said.
"The customer has highly evaluated our power generation technologies and after-sales services, as well as our efforts to maintain price competitiveness through local procurement of the boiler, leading to its awarding of the new order to us over other competitors, including General Electric Co. of the United States," it said.
The new dynamo would use converter gas, which is emitted during steel production, as fuel for power generation, allowing CST a stable supply of cheaper electricity, it said.
