Telecom carrier KDDI Corp. said Wednesday it has mistakenly sent hundreds of mobile phone bills for August to the wrong people, and is now collecting them.
The company said the bills were mailed to a maximum 406 users of its au mobile services, who live mostly in the cities of Koganei and Fuchu in western Tokyo.
The mistake was caused by a company in charge of printing and mailing the bills for KDDI, the carrier said. After paper jammed in a machine, the firm neglected to confirm the contents of the envelopes before mailing them, KDDI said.
The bills contained such information as the telephone numbers of callers and call recipients, and the duration of calls and charges, but did not include the name of callers, KDDI said.
