Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi will visit the United States to observe the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda said Monday.
Koizumi will also hold talks with President George W. Bush during his visit, which will run from Sept. 9 through Sept. 14, Fukuda told a news conference.
After attending a Sept. 11 ceremony in New York, the prime minister hopes to meet Bush the following day, he said. Koizumi will also give a speech at the U.N. general assembly on Sept. 13, Fukuda added.
The prime minister will fly into Boston on Sept. 9.
Before heading off for New York, he is scheduled to give a speech during a meeting of experts on Japan-U.S. relations at Harvard University, Fukuda said.
