OSAKA -- Although Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. discovered defects in a new DVD recorder released on the market Aug. 1, it failed to issue an immediate announcement to the media, Matsushita officials said Wednesday.
Defects in the starting program of the DMR-HS2 recorder could cause it to suddenly halt and fail to restart if a user deletes part of a program recorded on the model with a built-in hard disk and tries to edit a nearby portion.
Although this problem could afflict some 10,000 units that were initially shipped, Matsushita officials have already reinstalled the accurate program for devices at stores and have visited clients who already made purchases.
The DMR-HS2 has a recording capacity of 52 hours on HD and retails between 110,000 yen and 120,000 yen.
Matsushita was informed of the defect several days after the model's launch but only disclosed the fact over its Web site.
