Simultaneous quadrennial local elections are likely to be held nationwide on April 13 and 27, government sources said Thursday.

Elections for governors in 11 prefectures, including Tokyo, Hokkaido, Kanagawa and Fukuoka, are likely to be held on April 13, along with the election for the mayor of Sapporo. Polls for picking the heads of smaller municipalities are expected to be held April 27, they said.

Elections for prefectural and municipal assembly members are also likely to be held on those two days.

The Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications Ministry plans to submit a bill for setting the dates during an extra Diet session in the fall, they said.
