OSAKA -- The man accused of massacring eight children last summer at an Osaka elementary school said in court Thursday he does not plan to contest the prosecution's claim that he is mentally competent to be held accountable for the crimes.
"I have absolutely no desire to do that," said Mamoru Takuma, 38, who is on trial for the eight murders at Osaka Kyoiku University Ikeda Elementary School.
The prosecution team was allowed to question Takuma for the first time in court. It was the 13th session of his Osaka District Court trial, which began in December.
