Sales of new cars, trucks and buses in July fell 5.8 percent from the same month in 2001 to 367,902 units, marking the 11th consecutive month of decline, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Thursday.
Overall car sales in July fell 2.3 percent from last year to 289,958 units. Sales of cars featuring engine displacements of more than 2,000cc fell 16.5 percent to 61,122 units, while sales of smaller cars rose 2.4 percent to 228,836 units.
Truck sales fell 17.2 percent in July from the same month last year to 76,591 units, while sales of buses dropped 6.8 percent to 1,353 units, the group said.
