Toyota Motor Corp. has raised its 2002 global sales projection from 5.3 million units to 5.5 million, up 5 percent from last year, Toyota President Fujio Cho said Monday.
Cho attributed the increase to brisk overseas sales. In order to meet this target, Japan's largest automaker will increase global production by 280,000 units to 5.55 million units, up 8 percent from last year, Cho said.
Toyota has raised its sales target for its overseas markets from 3.55 million units to 3.75 million units, up 6 percent from the previous year. Its domestic sales target remains at 1.75 million units, up 2 percent from 2001.
