In a move to get its restructuring drive on track, the government on Friday set up a task force to facilitate the creation of special economic zones in which regulations would be drastically reduced.
The task force held its first meeting Friday morning after it was officially launched by the Cabinet. It is headed by Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and comprises all members of the Cabinet.
The government hopes to see the introduction of the first special economic zone as early as next spring.
