Culture Convenience Club Co. said Friday it now plans to take over only 19 of the 42 stores of Dai-Ichi Katei Denki Co., down from 32, because many employees at the failed consumer electronics retailer do not want to work for CCC.
CCC, which runs the Tsutaya video rental chain, said in May it would take over almost 75 percent of Dai-Ichi Katei Denki's directly owned stores. However, since then it has found that fewer staff than expected at Dai-Ichi Katei are willing to be re-employed at CCC, company officials said.
According to CCC, around 100 of the electrical goods retailer's employees were initially expected to take up jobs at CCC. The figure is now estimated at 60.
The first of Dai-Ichi Katei Denki's former stores to start operating as a Tsutaya store will be the outlet near Ikegami Station in Ota Ward, Tokyo, the officials said. It will begin operations July 27.
Dai-Ichi Katei Denki received approval in April from the Tokyo District Court to begin rehabilitation procedures under the Civil Corporate Rehabilitation Law.
