The Tokyo District Court has approved a request by prosecutors to extend the detention of lawmaker Muneo Suzuki for 10 days to July 10, court officials said Sunday.
The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office arrested Suzuki, a six-term House of Representatives member from Hokkaido, on June 19 for bribery. He is accused of accepting 5 million yen from the Hokkaido logging firm Yamarin in exchange for arranging favorable treatment from the Forestry Agency.
