Coach Japan Inc. opened a flagship store Wednesday in Tokyo's Ginza district, the largest Coach store in Japan selling products under the brand name of U.S. luxury bag maker Coach Inc.
Coach Ginza, with some 500 sq. meters of floor space, has the same wide range of products as the Coach store in New York, and is located next to the Hermes store, another luxury brand shop.
The appearance of the luxury store indicates that demand among Japanese customers for brand-name goods remains strong despite the country's overall slump in consumption.
Coach Ginza's items include rings and shoes that have not been sold in Japan before, as well as handbags made specifically for the Ginza shop.
Coach Japan was set up last August on an equal basis by Coach and major trading house Sumitomo Corp. It operates around 80 shops nationwide, including outlets in major department stores.
