OSAKA -- A 36-year-old man died after being stabbed in his car in the city of Moriguchi, Osaka Prefecture, early Saturday, local police said.
The victim was identified as Shuichi Fusamura, a company employee who lived in an apartment about 10 meters from where he was killed.
A neighbor was alerted by shouts for help at around 2:10 a.m., and went outside to see a man lying on the street, bleeding from his stomach. She then notified police.
Fusamura had been stabbed in several places, including the chest and abdomen, and died at the hospital about four hours later.
Fusamura's car was found in the parking lot of his apartment and investigators said they found multiple blood stains around the driver's seat, indicating that he had been stabbed while inside the car.
When the neighbor found him, Fusamura said he had been attacked by a man. Police believe his assailant had probably either been waiting for Fusamura to return home or attacked him while they were talking inside the vehicle.
Fusamura was wearing a black jumper over a running suit and his wallet had not been taken. Police said they have not ruled out the possibility that the victim had been summoned to the scene by someone he knew immediately before the attack.
A knife believed to be the murder weapon was found in a nearby ditch.
