Toyota Motor Corp.'s Corolla regained the position of top-selling car from Honda Motor Co.'s Fit in February, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Wednesday.
Corolla conceded the top-selling position to the Fit in November, which then held on to the spot for two months.
Toyota sold 18,700 Corollas in February, marking an 11 percent year-on-year fall. Honda sold 16,969 of the 1.3-liter Fit in the same period.
Both are compacts, as are five of the top 10 selling automobiles.
Toyota kept its dominant status, with six of its automobiles in the top 10: The Vitz compact came in third place, the Estima minivan fourth, the Noah minivan fifth, the Voxy minivan seventh and the Crown 10th.
Honda's Mobilio ultra-minivan seized the ninth slot, up from 24th the previous month.
Nissan Motor Co. had two of the top 10 sellers, with its Cube ranking sixth and the Serena Wagon taking eighth.
