Fast Retailing Co., which operates the Uniqlo chain, said Tuesday its sales plunged a record 36 percent on a same-store basis in February from a year earlier, down for the fifth straight month.
Fast Retailing made the year-on-year comparison in terms of sales at 378 outlets without disclosing the value of sales. The previous record fall of 35.2 percent was registered in January.
Sales at all 538 stores under direct management dropped 24.6 percent, the same margin of contraction as in January, down for the third straight month, Fast Retailing said.
As a result, sales in the first half of the current business year through August dropped 20.9 percent on a same-store basis and 5.4 percent at all stores under direct management.
