NTT Corp. and its two regional carriers have announced a business plan for fiscal 2002 that calls for an increase in the number of circuits available for B Flet's fiber-optic broadband service to 620,000, up from the current 20,000.

NTT East Corp. plans to increase the number of circuits offering the high-speed Internet communications service to 360,000 from the current 10,000, while NTT West Corp. is considering increasing the number to 260,000 from 10,000.

NTT and the two carriers hope to boost profits by drawing subscribers to the fiber-optic service amid fee-cutting competition in the market for the increasingly popular asymmetrical digital subscriber line services.

The firms also said the number of telephone lines offering ADSL services will increase by 1.45 million to 2.4 million for the two carriers.
