The government plans to submit during the current Diet session a bill governing procedures relating to the transfer of convicts between Japan and other nations, according to government sources.
Japan must enact the legislation before it can ratify the Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons, which went into effect in 1985.
The government is to also submit a bill to ratify the treaty.
