Orders for commemorative coins for this year's World Cup soccer finals to be cohosted by Japan and South Korea will be accepted from today to March 11, the Finance Ministry said Monday.
Special 10,000 yen gold coins will sell for 40,000 yen each and 1,000 yen silver coins for 6,000 yen, the ministry said.
Two-piece sets of gold and silver coins will sell for 45,000 yen, while sets of three 500 yen nickel coins will go for 3,000 yen.
The orders will be accepted only by postcard, and the coins will be distributed by lot if the number of orders exceeds stock.
Sales of the gold and silver coins and the two-piece set are expected to reach 50,000 units each. Sales of the three-piece sets are expected to hit 200,000 units.
Japan and South Korea will host the 2002 World Cup from May 31 to June 30.
