The transport ministry plans to include tires and child seats as items that can be recalled under the Road Trucking Vehicle Law, according to a bill for submission to the current Diet session that was made available Sunday.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport also plans to raise the maximum fine for automakers that fail to recall vehicles with defects or cover up vehicle defects to 200 million yen from the current 200,000 yen, according to the bill.
The bill would also ban for the first time certain modifications of vehicles and allow the ministry to order owners of such vehicles to undo the modifications.
