Koito Industries Ltd. said Tuesday it has acquired KPS N.A. Inc., a U.S. maintenance firm for airplane seats, to strengthen its airplane business in North America.
The major producer of seats for trains and airplanes said it acquired all 100,000 shares in KPS N.A. for $180,000 on Thursday.
The wholly owned subsidiary, based in Greensboro, N.C., will help Koito expand its aircraft seat business in North America and will be a base to start new business there, the company said.
The subsidiary, capitalized at $100,000, will also start remodeling plane seats and selling parts, it said. The firm has 10 employees.
The acquisition of KPS N.A., which provides seat maintenance and repair services for Continental Airlines, one of Koito's main customers, is also aimed at improving post-sales services to the airline, the company said.
