A new piece of legislation drafted to revise the global warming law calls on the government to set targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions and to give households advice on combating global warming, government sources said Sunday.
The legislation, which Japan needs to revise in order to ratify an international accord known as the Kyoto Protocol, is the cornerstone of a set of three sets of bills on global warming measures the government is planning to submit to the current regular Diet session.
However, the legislation does not list concrete steps to cut emissions of greenhouse gases, and the issue of introducing so-called emissions trading is being shelved for future discussions.
