U.S. President George W. Bush will meet Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on Feb. 18 after arriving Feb. 17 for his first trip to Japan since becoming president in January 2001, according to Bush's schedule.
Bush will land at Tokyo's Haneda airport in the afternoon of Feb. 17 and meet Koizumi the next morning. After a working lunch, the leaders will hold a joint news conference in the afternoon to announce the outcome of their meeting, according to the schedule, which was obtained over the weekend.
Following the news conference, Bush is to attend an official welcoming event at the Prime Minister's Official Residence and then a dinner hosted by Koizumi.
Bush is scheduled to give a speech at the House of Councilors plenary hall on the morning of Feb. 19, and to meet with Emperor Akihito at the Imperial Palace, where he'll have lunch.
The president is scheduled to leave Haneda airport for South Korea in the afternoon of Feb. 19.
