The second e-symposium on conflict prevention got under way Wednesday with a number of presenters stressing that although the events of Sept. 11 had far-reaching consequences, a number of issues remain virtually unchanged.

The symposium, cosponsored by The Japan Times and the Japan Center for Preventive Diplomacy, runs until Feb. 14.

Ishikawa Kaoru, acting director of the Japan Institute of International Affairs, asserted that in terms of conflict prevention in a post-Sept. 11 world, "what has been unchanged is at least as important as what has been changed."
