Confirming Japan-U.S. cooperation in the fight against terrorism and discussing how to revive Japan's economy will be key issues during U.S. President George W. Bush's visit here later this month, Japan's ambassador to the United States has said in Tokyo.
In an interview Friday with The Japan Times, Ryozo Kato said Bush and Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi will pledge cooperation in the "second phase" of the U.S. antiterrorism campaign following the military operations in Afghanistan.
Kato said the second phase will include monitoring cross-border movement of terrorists, checking proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, establishing information networks and cutting off sources of funding for terrorists.
