The Japanese Red Cross Society has asked the health ministry to lift its ban on shipments of blood products made using blood tainted with the hepatitis B virus, according to ministry sources.
The society claims the virus is eradicated in the production process, the sources said.
The Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry banned shipments of blood products in this category on Jan. 11, due to fears over their safety.
