Japan's overall consumer confidence in December remained unchanged from September, indicating spending is unlikely to increase soon, a quarterly government survey showed Monday.
The survey by the Cabinet Office shows that the consumer confidence index as of Dec. 15 remained at a seasonally adjusted 36.9, unchanged from the previous survey in September when it fell to a three-year low, the office said.
Of the survey's five categories, four showed worsening sentiment -- employment, attitudes toward overall livelihood, income growth, and inclination to purchase durable goods.
