Compiled from wire services Scandal-ravaged Snow Brand Food Co. faced fresh allegations Sunday that it asked a storage contractor to lie about how much beef was in a container in order to cash in on a government mad cow subsidy.
The food firm, already facing a criminal investigation for mislabeling imported beef as domestic to capitalize on the subsidy, had asked warehouser Nishinomiya Reizo to make a false report about the quantity of meat in containers, according to the sources close to the storage contractor.
Though there was only 12.4 tons of beef in the containers, the report said there was another 1.4 tons, the sources said.
