OSAKA -- The Osaka District Court sentenced three senior postal officials to suspended prison terms Thursday for illegally campaigning for a Liberal Democratic Party candidate in the House of Councilors election in July.
Tsuyoshi Mishima, a former chief of the Kinki Postal Administration Office, was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for four years, for abusing his position by illegally campaigning for Kenji Koso, who was elected but gave up his Diet seat in September after the violations were uncovered.
The court sentenced Tsunehiko Nishida, 56, former head of the general affairs department at the Kinki office, to 16 months in prison, suspended for four years, and Isao Fujinaga, secretariat chief of a group of special post office heads in the Kinki region, to eight months in prison, suspended for four years.
