Seven senior officials of the nation's largest labor union announced Wednesday that they would step down to take responsibility for a tax-evasion scandal involving a former union chairman.
Those who have indicated their intention to resign include Yoshiyuki Ohara, chairman of Jichiro, the All-Japan Prefectural and Municipal Workers' Union, Deputy Chairman Masahiro Nomura, Secretary General Shingo Fukuyama, Deputy Secretary General Kunihiko Kawabata and Masaichi Miyashita, who heads the union's finance bureau.
Also to depart are Haruo Sato, head of Jichiro's mutual aid organization, and Koei Sato, a former union finance bureau head who is currently a special member of the executive committee.
