Kiyofumi Sakaguchi, chairman of Prudential Life Insurance Co. of Japan, died of heart failure Jan. 11., company officials said Tuesday. He was 58.
Sakaguchi studied at two universities in the United States, including the graduate school of Northeastern University, and worked at various foreign and Japanese insurance firms. He became president of Prudential's Japan unit in October 1987. He was appointed chairman in July 1999. He also served as adviser to the Life Insurance Association of Japan.
The funeral service for family and friends is to take place at Zenpukuji Temple in Moto-Azabu, Tokyo, at 12:30 p.m. today. The date for the official company funeral has not yet been decided but will take place within a month, the officials said.
