OSAKA -- Daihatsu Diesel Mfg. Co. said Tuesday it has formed a technical tieup with South Korea's HSD Engine Co. in the field of medium-speed marine diesel engines.
In the deal, the Japanese diesel-engine maker will offer manufacturing technology to HSD Engine, and the South Korean firm will produce and sell engines in South and North Korea.
HSD Engine, established in January 2000, will begin making medium-speed diesel engines in January 2003, with an annual production target of 35 units.
Thirty of the engines will be manufactured with technical assistance from Daihatsu Diesel, the company said.
The firms will also consider the possibility of supplying products on an original equipment manufacturing basis and mutually providing parts, it said.
