Japanese researchers said Friday they will establish an academic society in March to examine and combat posttraumatic stress disorder.
The academic society will be the first of its kind set up in Asia, although there are similar bodies in the United States, Europe and Australia, the researchers said.
Members of the organizing committee, headed by Nozomu Asukai, a senior researcher at Tokyo Institute of Psychiatry, said they have been preparing to establish the society since autumn and are in the process of inviting relevant researchers, doctors, counselors and therapists to join up.
The committee will also invite local government officials, education experts, police officers, firefighters, doctors and counselors to join the society as it believes that combating the ailment needs a diverse range of assistance. above and beyond medical and psychological treatment.
The committee will hold a symposium on March 2 and 3 in Tokyo that will also serve as the society's inaugural meeting. It will also offer information on the society over the Internet.
