OSAKA -- Sanyo Electric Co. plans to introduce a work-sharing system in April in the first such move by a major consumer electronics maker in Japan, company officials said Wednesday.
Sanyo's management and labor union have basically agreed to adopt the flexible system under which work can be shared through shorter working hours.
The system will apply to around 30,000 people at Sanyo and its three subsidiaries and will last for six months to three years. Management will also be encouraged to launch new projects to create jobs during this time.
