The nation's public pension program, which has long favored the full-time housewife over the full-time working woman, may finally balance the scales, bringing a major impact to women's lifestyles.

A government panel on women and the pension system compiled a report Friday that calls for a pension system that treats working women fairly, regardless of marital status.

The existing pension system is based on a family model of one wage earner -- the husband. But this is no longer perceived as a typical family, as many people remain single longer and many married women continue their careers.
