Japanese graduates of Boston University will establish a scholarship fund to help students of Japanese origin study at the U.S. university, a Tokyo-based alumni association said Monday.
The Boston University Alumni Association of Japan said the scholarship is "assumed to be the very first in Japan which is established and operated by an alumni association."
Although Boston University provides various scholarships, they are mostly for U.S. citizens. The association thus decided to set up its own scholarship fund.
BUAAJ's scholarship committee, formed a year ago, will soon begin fundraising activities and has set a goal of collecting $1 million. It hopes to select and send its first scholarship recipient within the next three years.
