Japan on Friday promised long-term educational support for Afghanistan as part of aid efforts to help rebuild the war-torn country, education ministry officials said.
Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Minister Atsuko Toyama made the offer at a meeting of members of Afghan nongovernmental organizations.
"The education of women and children is important," Toyama said during the meeting held at the education ministry. "(Japan) intends to do its best in drawing up the plan, while heeding advice from the NGOs."
